Good question though " Tell me, who got you appointed to a board?"

For anyone actually.  Who appoints people to boards? (I don't know how these boards work or why they exist, don't we have massive amounts of paid city staff?)

Wow..that's too bad fellows.  Sorry to see that people think this is conspiracy.

Kerry...call for board appointments are pretty much posted in the Gazette a few weeks prior.  There is a pretty informal interview process, and then you await the selections.  On a few of the older appointments, there was a two year time review, at which point if you could re apply.  I think the re appointment is rather rubber stamped as some of them actually have a small "training" component involved.  By that, I mean familiarity with the board rules, part of the by laws they represent, or etc.

I have sat on one board for 6 years and another for 1.5 years.  Three different administrations including Chalifoux, Fowler, and Crouse.

Although I don't think you will ever get "official" confirmation, I suspect you will have a hard time being appointed if you rub some the wrong way.  I do also believe it is a council vote and not just an individual councilor vote.

On a postiive side note, I remember speaking with Len about appointments, and the applications greatly exceeded the number of appointments available.  Some use the boards as a "launching" point for election, and I err on the side of optimism that most of them just wish to contribute back to the community.

(edit) - used "information" instead of "informal"

Forgot to add, some o fthe appointments for public are done not because there is too much city staff; but some of the boards require a general population voice/representation etc as part of their Terms of Reference or makeup

Sorry I didn't make it last night-I didn't go to the SATA meeting either, as I was just too burned out. I've been needing a bit of a break lately.

Who all showed up? What were the main topics of conversation?

Damn-I would really have loved to have come, but like I said I've had a lot going on.

Just out of curiosity, did anyone have any thoughts on my latest Gazette column that I got published about two weeks ago now?

I have to admit that I'm probably not going to be on Carol Watamaniuk's Christmas card list this year...

Does anyone ever bring up Transit at Poliwings?  Why doesn't the city want users to pay for their transportation? I have to pay for my car, my insurance, my gas, my maintenance.

It is time for the city to pursue 100% return on transit costs.   Why wouldn't they want this? Why shouldn't this be the goal?  Don't taxpayers deserve that?

Higher fares will end Transit some may say?  Well guess what, it isn't really needed then, people are just taking advantage of someone else paying for their transportation.

Kerry,

It has been brought up, yes.

I will start a new thread in the Muni Politics to discuss transit and your questions you are posing are valid, but I dont want it to derail the poliwings thread.

D.

UPDATE:

Done.  Kerry, I copy and pasted your comments above over there to start the discussion off.

Sweetlou that is a ridiculous comment that added nothing to the discussion and has been deleted.

Before judging what happens, come to a poliwings.  It is an open, positive group to relax, have a beer and chat.

why is it a ridiculous comment?  The comment meant nothing derogatory toward poliwings, and wasn't meant as a jab at the organizers or attendees - save one, who has yet to show up.

why is that anyway?  Is political small talk with residents not something nc is capable of? or is he worried that he won't be able to control his mania if he perceives a threat in the room?

The Comment had nothing to do with poliwings and to write out that someone should record conversations if someone if verbally "bastardised" is ridiculous, and added NOTHING to the topic of the thread.  This tread was not created to discuss issues you have with a Councillor or mayor, it is for Poliwings announcements.

Slow down!

If you'd like I can put my comments on another thread.

In noticing that some of your attendees included people who have had run-ins with nc - I thought it might be a good idea to give a heads-up.  I guess you don't agree. No need to shout.

...and please don't lecture me on prejudging what goes on at poliwings because I did not.

Much to no one on this forums surprise, the mybirdie.ca forums comments about Poliwings and how the monthly event is thought to be elitist and questions about what Poliwings agenda is. Well, we had a lot of fun last night and that was our overall agenda.

To help explain we wrote out some of our own agendas and messages.
