When the Italians, Ukrainians, Vietnamese entered our country did they demand changes favourable to their culture? No, they assimilated. They were happy to be in Canada. These people still celebrate their culture, which is commendable, but they do not access the courts to bend the rules in favor of their culture. Many Muslims come to Canada with the idea that we bend our rules in favour of their culture.

Dana:  I understand your point that if we become so fearful for our safety that we are prepared to sacrifice “life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness” then the terrorists have won.  However, there is another “fear” which it is critical to avoid, namely; the fear of the politically correct police who attempt to silence anyone who is prepared to recognize that this “Islamic terrorism” is a group of radicals within the Islamic faith who have to be confronted directly, forcefully, and with a clear mission to protect our way of life.

Unfortunately, this politically correct mantra has been propagated in our schools for years now.  They feign a tolerance for diverse ideas.  However, as soon as someone expresses an idea which doesn’t fit their paradigm, as soon as the bright sunshine of an original idea penetrates their dark warm politically correct nest, they spring out like a jack-in-the-box yelling “racist”, “biased”, “homophobe”, “negative thinker,” etc. etc.   It often seems to me that these people are motivated by a fear of being alienated by their politically correct friends and hence their formula for dealing with terrorism is little more than a modern version of appeasement.  Check out Chamberlain's dealings with Hitler ... how did that turn out?

IMHO, ISIS is very SMALL GROUP who have become very successful at making a HUGE POINT to a whole world that rightfully cowers under the fear of a possible 3rd World War.

What does ISIS want?

Maybe if we rounded up every last person of Syrian descent and just killed them, they’d leave us alone?  On the other hand, we could always come away with clean hands by allowing ISIS to do it for us.

Nope.  Sorry.  Not our problem.  Syrians, who?

Maybe if every country got together and divvied up Syrian refugees around the world, they’d leave us alone?  On the other hand, what if they didn’t like our decisions?   Would more carnage ensue?  Probably.

We worry about our own hungry, homeless and poor and say that we can’t put another pair of feet under the dinner table; yet how many of us would be here in Canada, were it not either directly or indirectly as a result of world wars - AND during the worst financial periods in our history?

I suppose the question we have to ask ourselves is - once ISIS get's what it wants (one way or the other), who's next?

@OMG - RE: Happy to be Canadians?

If you want to "blame" anyone for the rights of newcomers to Canada, all you have to do is look eastward and ask the son of PET just who told them they could do what they want, when they get to Canada.

Swallow.....can you elaborate on the point of "Happy to be Canadians!" I was comparing the expectations of a variety of cultures and the Muslims' expectations.

@OMG - Comparing cultures?

It sounded to me as though you were in fact blaming other cultures for coming here, if they didn't, as you say assimilate - like the " Italians, Ukrainians, Vietnamese".

I was attempting to point out why assimilation wasn't necessary.

Swallow....I was saying that cultures like Italian, Chinese, Ukrainian, Portuguese, etc. embraced the Canadian culture. Did they use the legal system to make changes? No.

I would expect any people who move here to respect our laws, period. Laws against assault (like female mutilation), and murder (honor killings). Assimilation can be a tricky concept...isn't that how the whole residential school disaster began? Forcing a people to abandon their culture and assimilate? Seems to me there are groups right here in Canada who flout our laws under the whole "it's our religion" thing. Not to point fingers just at Muslims. What about that polygamous Mormon group in BC?

A distinction needs to be made between Muslims and extremists. People tend to mix the two up thanks to governments intially slamming Muslims instead of extremists back in 2001. And then they carefully cultured that concept and the public went along with it.

News facts regarding Paris:
Two Syrian passports were found - individuals had crossed Greece as "refugees" and made it through France's screening and borders.
One of the eight was French.
ISIS has claimed responsibility and stated that it would continue international carnage. And yes, they did include N.A.

Refugees who truly need to escape should. Trudeau stated yesterday that the Canadian government would be screening the refugees 'responsibily'. As if France didn't, especially after July's shooting of Charlie Hebdo. But when has government been able to "save" its citizens from Trojan Horses? History will repeat itself no matter how many protest that it won't.

As Islamic terrorism has now become an almost daily news item, it seems important to dispel some of the myths that the Islamic appeasers propagate endlessly through the mainstream media.

Myths.
1. MYTH: The Islamic terrorists are just a small group or radicals within the Muslim population.
FACT: Our various Western Intelligence agencies estimate that Islamic Terrorist supporters are about 15% to 25% of the Muslim population. Islam has about 1.6 billion followers of which it is estimated there are about 1,053,945 Muslims in Canada and about 2.75 million Muslims living in the United States. So if 15% - 25% of them support Sharia law and terrorist goals over national secular law that translates into about 158,091 to 263,486 who support Islamic terrorist goals in Canada and 412,500 - 687, 000 who support Islamic terrorist goals in the United States. [see: http://www.ibtimes.com/how-many-muslims-live-united-states-pew-research-center-releases-new-figures-2255657]

2. MYTH: Trudeau and the Government Administrations will make sure that we do not import terrorists and simply import genuine refugees.
FACT: FBI Director Comey has admitted that in the case of Syria, they simply do not have an extensive data base of information from Syria so their vetting is far from being effective to screen out terrorists. [See: https://www.c-span.org/video/?328793-1/fbi-director-james-comey-oversight-hearing-testimony ]
So if the American's can't do it with their Intelligence resources you can rest assured that Canada can't identify potential terrorists attempting to immigrate to Canada either.

3. MYTH: Those that are in favour of putting an embargo on immigrants from countries that span Islamic terrorist are all Islamophobes who lump all Muslim believers as terrorists and refuse to acknowledge that there are many peaceful Muslims.
FACT: This is a typical straw man argument. While, no doubt, there are some racists who oppose Middle East Immigration based on racial grounds, the vast majority of Canadians who are sceptical of Trudeau's immigration policies do so on national security grounds not racism. They take the position that the first obligation of our government is to protect its citizenry and until they have some reasonable process to vet immigrants from countries which spawn Islamic terrorism to ensure terrorists do not get into the country ... there should be a hold on immigration from those countries
