Reading the Mayor's blog which was his speech the other night - we have to keep on spending to keep St. Albert what it is, dang it! - is a short but accurate summary.

I just hope he keeps his word about taxes in the 2-3% range per year and if he votes yes for any budget higher than that, he is a man who does not keep his word.

Mr. Draper is putting on a major push for high attendance. They're bored with getting the same old fiscally conservative earful from the usual two dozen[rolleyes].
So to all you bike-parkers, Servus-expanders, transit-fare reducers, Christmas business decorators, LRT-aficionados, and all other heavy spenders of my taxes ... don't disappoint him:
BE THERE OR BE SQUARE !!! [cool]

re Budget townhalls:
The formats for the meetings are different.  The only one that has an open format...all hear the same bumf, and hear all questions asked/answers is:
1) November 13, 2013 – Traditional Town Hall with Live Webstreaming
Bellerose Composite High School – 49 Giroux Road
6:30 to 8:30 p.m.

The second town hall is the rotating councillor one...tested out last year and which many did not like.
The third is a virtual town hall.

So if you decide to go to a townhall, choose the one with the best format for you.

re:  Crouse's promise of 2-3% tax hikes...while I put NO credibility on anything this man says, maybe he thought he could get away with this one because they will raise utility rates by 40% to fatten the reserves kitty to:
1.  Allow them the sleight of hand trick of assigning NO provincial Municipal Infrastructure Grant money to utilities, thus freeing it up for all the nice-to-have projects on the municipal capital wish list;
2.  Build up the reserves kitty so that Administration can dip their fingers in it to fund more nice to have projects without the hassle of passing a borrowing by-law...which has to go to public hearing!

Sorry, I don't trust this crew any farther than I can throw them, and good luck to Sheena and Cam in this boondoggle!

St. Albert proposing just over 2% tax increase while Edmonton over 5%.. Great job by council.  Time to give credit when credit is due.   -- 40% utilities?  Please. [rolleyes]
